When I joined the SMU Generative AI program, I wasn’t just signing up for a course.
I was stepping into a community of people who had already made a powerful decision: to own their future.
One of my classmates, my good friend Phil Ho, stands out.
He’s senior in age, but without question the most future-ready person I’ve met.
While many professionals his age would rather hold onto what they know, Phil chose reinvention.
He keeps reminding me: “Don’t wait for change. Lead it.”
That mindset is contagious.
And it didn’t stop with him.
The rest of my classmates came with the same spirit.
They weren’t waiting for disruption to knock on their door.
They were actively building the skills, the mindset, and the courage to embrace what’s next.
This is what ownership looks like.
It’s not about controlling everything around you.
It’s about taking responsibility for how you respond and refusing to stay in the comfort zone.
The truth is, reinvention is infectious.
When you surround yourself with people who choose growth, you grow too.
When you take ownership of your career and your life, you stop waiting for the dreaded notice… and start writing your own future.
